We built something with nothing
A house where even the dead could not live
Our yard and flowers, they perished
Maybe we should have made something between the weeds,
for they will live forever
They will grow and make their home
between the ruins of us
The annihilation of us, we should mourn
But when the death of love
Showed up at our door, we just said welcome
And left the door wide open
-without hesitation
Maybe we just knew it too well
Or maybe we just didn’t know at all
Between then and now, I have died every day
Trying to recreate, trying to mend
But it wasn’t enough, it never will be
We’re different from what we thought
Made out of delusion and vanity
Nevertheless, we have learned to love
